Across the globe, drivers take their lives in their hands cruising across unstable, unkempt, and unbelievably unsafe roadways. Join us for this palm-sweating installment as we travel 10 of the scariest roads around the world. 10. Stelvio Pass, Italy Acrophobia may want to do everything they can to avoid driving down Italy’s Stelvio Pass. Not only is it at an elevation of 9,045 feet or 2,756 meters high, making it the highest paved road in the Eastern Alps, but its twisting corners do a poor job of hiding every inch of the 6,138-foot or 1,871-meter trek down. Sixty hairpin turns add a true challenge to this stretch of road, and though it is far from some of the world’s most dangerous roads, every winding curve down the steep decline will have average drivers pumping the brakes a bit more frequently than normal. 9. Lippincott Mine Road If you’re cruising down Lippincott Mine Road in Eastern California, chances are you aren’t joyriding in your new Honda Civic. This 8. 2 mile or 1. 6 kilometer dirt trail drops from an elevation of 3,876 to 2,256 feet or 1,181 to 687 meters, but it’s no easy ride down. The road was chiseled into the mountain in the 1970’s by villagers looking for access to the outside world, and though they completed the project and opened up their world, they didn’t do so with the safest and most appealing of roads. The 13-foo tor 4-meter wide trail stretches 3/4 of a mile or about 1. 2 kilometers long and only hasa clearance of 16 feet or 5 meters. Though the views down the mountainside are beautiful,there’s not much between you and the deadly tumble, and there’s very little visibility around the tight bends. 6. Skippers Canyon Road, New Zealand Strange as it may seem, some of the most scenic routes in the world also tend to be some of the scariest. Skippers Canyon Road in New Zealand’s South Island is an odd combination of both, providing thrill seekers with a view and casual drivers with a heart attack. The 13-mile or 22-kilometer road was constructed during the gold rush and has been left mostly untouched to this day, meaning the same narrow, unpaved path is exactly what drivers get to experience. Steep drops beside extremely narrow turns should be enough to warrant nothing but the most careful of driving, but the road’s poor conditions accentuate the need for careful driving – and, essentially, using nothing short of a off-road vehicles. 5. Taroko Gorge Road, Taiwan When you’re thousands of feet above jagged rock, some things you don’t want to be faced with include narrow paths, sharp turns, and blind curves. Taroko Gorge Road in Taiwan is ripe with all three of these. Driving along the narrowed roadway becomes a fight for space as traffic moves in opposite directions, turning blind corners into a terrifying approach. As if driving conditions weren’t rough enough,heavy rainfall can cause debris from the mountain to dislodge and block the roadway and any sort of seismic activity can cause the highway to crack and break apart, making it completely non-functional or, for anyone caught on it, extremely life threatening. 4. The Himalayan Roads Though the scenery can easily be described as breathtaking, there’s no denying the adrenaline rush of fear that driving alongthe Himalayan Roads in India and Tibet can bring. Specifically, the stretch of a paved path that tops what is currently the highest motor-able point in the world at 18,300 fee tor 5,600 meters. The roadway, which runs for 295 miles or 475 kilometers, is carved right into the mountain’s face, and though it is equipped with guards to keep one from careening to their death, the narrow roadway becomes treacherous around bends, especially during any sort of weather event. Possible rock-slides add an additional layer of discomfort to the long and arduous drive along this high-atmosphere roadway. 3. North Yungas Road, Bolivia A road some 12-feet 3. 5 meters wide isn't all that terrible. Place it next to a drop of about 2,000 feet or 609 meters, and you have yourself a road known to the world as “Death Road. ” The colorful title was given to Bolivia’s North Yungas Road for its incredibly hazardous driving conditions, including mudslide sand tumbling rocks, and complete lack of guardrail around its tightest and highest, turns. An estimated 300 people succumb to many of the road’s dangers, as indicated by small, handmade memorials placed along the 43-mile or 69-kilometer path. As you travel from 15,260 feet or 4,650 meters high to around 3,900 feet or 1,200 meters, you’re left white knuckled, hoping you don’t wind up as a crafted memorial, left to get washed away in the rain. 2. Bayburt Of Yolu-D915, Turkey There are some roads out there that shouldn't be attempted, even by the most confident drivers. This 65-mile or 106 kilometer nightmare connecting the towns of Of, Trabzon and Bayburt in Turkey is one such scenario, climbing up to an elevation of 6,677 feet or 2,035 meters without the safety of guardrails and comfort of a fully paved path. The lengthy path features a series of 29 step turns, most of which provide no visibility as to what’s on the other side of the bend. On clear days, the view is magnificent,but the more common foggy days only aid in making the northern end of state road D915a deadly and terrifyingly blind drive. D915’s most dangerous stretch features 13 hairpin turns and drops almost 1,000 feet or 304 meters in 3. 2 miles or 5. 1 kilometers. 1. BR-116, Brazil From child prostitution operations to a high number of deaths per year (roughly 254 in 2012 alone), Brazil’s BR-116 is often considered the world’s most dangerous road – though it may not look like it on the surface. Over the years, WWE has had to deal with a ton of controversy. Sometimes things just happen that are out of their control, while other times the WWE brings controversy upon themselves. These controversial moments make for some of the best story lines in the business,but other times they are met with a negative reaction. Some moments in WWE history arose bad that they must be swept under the rug, so here are 10 things WWE pretends never happened. Good ol’ Gene Snit sky, making his appearance on another of my lists. Snit sky had a strong debut against Kane, which unexpectedly led to a feud between the two. The rivalry got heated when Snit sky pushed Kane into his pregnant girlfriend Leta, forcing her to miscarry. This led to the infamous baby incident. Snit sky came out with a baby to torment Lita who had just lost hers. After repeatedly telling the baby shut up and refusing to hand over the child, Snit sky PUNTED the baby into the crowd! No, it wasn’t a real baby, it was a doll,but this was still a controversial yet hilarious moment. Goldberg was one of the most dominant superstars to come out of WCW, and when he finally made it to WWE in 2003, everybody was hoping he would become one of the company’s top guys. He showed his dominance by quickly becoming a headliner and won the World Heavyweight Championship from Triple H. He was an awesome addition to the roster, but sadly things just weren't working out for him on a personal level. Goldberg had numerous issues behind the scenes and didn’t like how the company was operating, so after a terrible match with Brock Lenard at Wrestle Mania 20, he left the company. Nowadays WWE rarely ever mentions his name. Daniel Bryan’s loss to Shea mus at Wrestle Mania 28 is a more recent moment in history that WWE doesn’t want to speak of. Before he was the megastar he went out as, Daniel Bryan was a heel World Heavyweight Champion who jobbed to Shea mus on the grandest stage of them all, being defeated in a mere 18 seconds. Many people were disappointed with what had occurred due to Bryan being one of the more talented guys on the roster. At the time it was the shortest match in Wrestle Mania history,but WWE attempted to bury this moment by having The Rock beat Erick Rowan in just 6 second sat Wrestle Mania 32. One of the most controversial gimmicks in WWE history, Muhammad Hassan was an Arab-American wrestler who exhibited many traits that related to extremism. One can imagine how his character would be offensive to many Arabic viewers and even Americans. Yes, it was a bad gimmick,but it was still kind of acceptable until an episode of Smack Down in 2005. Hassan unleashed 5 men wearing black clothing to beat down The Undertaker. Let’s be real here; theme closely resembled the image of terrorists. Just three days after this incident, the London Bombings occurred. This led to demands that Hassan be taken off the air, which ultimately led to his character being scrapped. The infamous Katy Vick angle was absolutely disgusting and it’s no surprise that WWE refrains from ever acknowledging it. Triple H and Kane were feuding way back in 2002 and the story line dictated that Kane had possibly killed his girlfriend Katy Vick who supposedly died in a car crash. Yes, Kane was quite the player back in the day. Anyways, the feud got heated and Triple H ended up visiting the deceased. This is where Hunter decided to put on a Kane mask and molest the corpse. Yes, this story line involved necrophilia on live television, and stands out as one of the most disturbing story angles in history. The Stone Cold-Brian Pill man incident is one of the craziest things ever seen on live television. The two were long-time friends, but when Pillmanmade it to the WWE things changed and the two began to feud. Things escalated to the point where Stone Cold broke Pill man's ankle, which left him unable to leave his own home. In November of 1996, Austin decided to go to his rival’s house to “finish it”,but that’s when things went south. Pill man pulled out a 9mm pistol on Austin. This was followed by frantic yelling and screaming, with many initially thinking Stone Cold had been shot. This got the WWE in quite a bit of trouble and they later apologized for it. Vince McMahon has been a great character on-screen for WWE, being one of the best heels in history. However, McMahon made the choice a few years back to make his transition to a mostly behind the scenes role, and he decided the best way to do this was to kill himself. At the end of an episode of RAW in 2007, Vince got into his white limo, only for it to suddenly combustion explode. This was extremely unexpected and the local police even got calls from WWE fans reporting the explosion. Of course, this was part of the story line. However it was all interrupted when the real life death of a WWE superstar, who we’ll talk about later,forced Vince to come back to host a tribute show. Hulk Hogan is a legend, there’s simply no denying it. He helped put the WWE on the map and will forever be an icon in the industry. However, the Hulkster has gotten himself into a bit of trouble as of late, forcing the WWE to take a step back. Not only did the recent sex tape scandal taint his image forever, but Hulk was also fired after blatantly racist comments. He was caught using the “N” word in a very derogatory manner, but still claims he isn’t racist. Hulk was awarded 140 million dollars in damages over his sex tape, so I don’t think he cares if WWE wants him back or not, but the company sure tries to avoid any talks of his transgressions. The tragic death of Owen Hart is another thing the WWE plays off as if it never happened. In 1999 at a live WWE PPV, Owen was making his entrance via zip line to the ring. However, the mechanism failed and Owen fell almost 80 feet to the ground, unfortunately killing him. The show however did controversially go on, during which Jim Ross announced that Owen had died from the fall. Owen was givens tribute the next night on RAW and his family was awarded 18 million dollars in 2000. However the superstar, let alone the tragedy, has never been mentioned since. This also means Owen hasn’t been inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame. Chris Benoit was a truly great wrestler who has been completely wiped away by the WWE. In 2007, Benoit murdered both his wife and 7 year old son before taking his own life. The double murder/suicide shocked both the WWE and the world. A full 3 hour tribute show was dedicated to Chris just after his death, but after the circumstances of it were released,WWE went on the defensive. They completely erased any trace of Chris Benoit from history,including his crowning achievement of winning the World Heavyweight Championship at WrestleMania20.
